What is FindYourWay?
Rockville, MD. February 3, 2020
Have you ever missed a bus, train or even flight due to last minute gate changes, grabbing food
too far away from your gate or simply because you read the wrong information on that large screen with way too much information on it? Don’t worry, we have too!
These problems are quite common and have simple solutions. Amtrak, the National Railroad
Passenger Corporation, reached out to Zyter to fix these roadblocks. Zyter came up with FindYourWay, a mobile application that does just that, help you find your way and more! Currently being used at New York’s Penn Station, the app includes indoor navigation and real-time boarding information for all
Amtrak passengers. FindYourWay is streamlining the commuter transit experience and seamlessly
connecting users to the environment around them.
How does FindYourWay work? Centered around an interactive station map, the app is powered
by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Zyter installed about 700 BLE energy beacons throughout Penn
Station. These beacons can track the user’s position and direction throughout the entire station. Once passenger enters the station with Bluetooth enabled on their device, Zyter is able to triangulate their
precise location. BLE allows for highly intuitive and accurate indoor navigation. Before the partnership
with Zyter, Amtrak had large screens displaying all train information. During the first run of
FindYourWay, the information on these screens was fed into the app manually. Since then, Zyter has
integrated directly with the PIDs system allowing users to see information in real-time, allowing users to travel with ease and allowing them to avoid large crowds.
Amtrak is serving more than 30 million passengers and earning more than $3 billion in revenue
yearly. A clear leader in today’s rail service industry, Amtrak’s desire to become more technologically
advanced will only lead to more growth. Zyter is proud to be partnered with Amtrak.
